IMDS Rec019 "Electric/Electronic components and assemblies" was updated due to editorial changes which reflect the reworked ZVEI standard materials for PCB-ceramics. These materials reflect the new declaration of glasses, ceramics and enamels (see announcement from 03-Sep-2013).
Newly created PCBs have to use the latest version of the materials. For older datasheets please refer to the update information in the FAQ for glasses (category Materials).
When updating your datasheets please also take care that all used solders are reported separately.

In addition, a new version of the Automotive Industry Interpretation Guide for ELV Annex II was published.

Last week, the migration from IMDS Release 7.2 to IMDS Release 8.0 was successfully completed. All IMDS companies and IMDS users use Release 8.0 from now on. This also includes special profiles like IMDS-a2 and IMDS-AI users.

Please get informed under FAQ category "Materials" about new rules for declaring glass, ceramics or enamel in IMDS. These rules are now also part of the Annex I (IMDS001a) to IMDS Recommendation 001.

Toyota updated its IMDS documentation for suppliers. You can find more information in the Help category "OEM Specific Information".

On 27th August 2013, Toyota changes the handling of Part/Item numbers and supplier codes when sending MDSs to Toyota. Requested data (Part/Item number, supplier code and due date) will not be contained in IMDS anymore. Therefore, supplier codes will not be checked any more, but are still mandatory. The search function for Part/Item numbers, which also shows the due date, will be removed.

2 new enhancements available for IMDS Release 8.0:

  1. New function Clipboard available: allows copying of basic substances, material data sheets and MDS Requests into a clipboard for further use in searches or MDS editing. After logging out from IMDS the clipboard remains active and is available again at next login.
  2. Adapting the default option "only root companies" switched off in the company search function (Check-Box): this option is not the default value, searching is carried out as in IMDS Release 7.2 for root companies and Org.-Units by default.

Annex II to the ELV-Directive was changed in May 2013. Please refer to the FAQ section "Legislative Requirements" for the updated document.

The IMDS application code already exists for this update of Annex II (8i) - only the applicable date has changed in the legislation.

On June 20th 2013 six new substances were added to the REACH candidate list. Some of the substances had to be flagged in IMDS accordingly. For more details please refer to the attached document. Please check carefully your MDSs on jokers or confidential substances because reporting of REACH candidate list substances is legally required.

Hardware Environment Modernization for IMDS NT
(please also refer to IMDS NT Newsletter 30)

As one major step towards an operational next-generation IMDS (IMDS New Technology), the current version of IMDS Release 7.2 has been migrated to a new cluster of servers the past weekend. Nothing "visible" in the IMDS application (or IMDS-AI - Advanced Interface) has changed for end-users at this stage.

Next Milestones are now planning and preparation of IMDS Rel. 8.0 being rolled out and operated in parallel with current IMDS Release 7.2 so the user transition can be completed step by step.

With IMDS Release 8.0 the modernized and improved IMDS web application will be introduced to the IMDS user community in May 2013.

For IMDS NT, the use of Internet Explorer 7 or higher is recommended.

Modern web applications such as IMDS NT will no longer permit use of Internet Explorer 6. These applications use new technologies which are not supported in an eleven year old browser. Additionally, security considerations are involved. For IMDS NT, Internet Explorer 7 or higher is necessary. Alternatively, you can use Mozilla Firefox which will be supported in its current version. Other browsers like Opera, Google Chrome and Safari will also work.

If you are still using Internet Explorer 6 we highly recommend you update to a newer browser, especially for security reasons.

The IMDS Steering Committee MDS screen printing ink (cured) (ID 9448512) including all its versions was reactivated again. (This MDS was hidden at the end of September 2012.) 

Even with 100% jokers in this MDS the reactivation was accepted by the industry because no better solution could be found between the industry partners.

The next CLEPA Materials Regulations Event (formerly called CLEPA IMDS Suppliers' Group meeting) will be held on 23rd April 2013 at the FILharmonie in Filderstadt, 5 minutes away from Stuttgart Airport.

This event is open to all actors of the automotive supply chain, being or not a CLEPA member. The latest status of the IMDS, ELV Directive, Conflict Minerals and REACH will presented as well as the on-going Industry works on these issues. The workshop will be the opportunity to raise any question to the representatives of OEMs and of CLEPA Expert Groups on on-going discussions. Also, the latest and next international activities of CLEPA together with the US suppliers in AIAG and the Japanese suppliers in JAPIA will be explained. Registration instructions, a draft agenda and practical information can be found on the CLEPA-website.
