The Application Codes for PAHs Not Applicable [ID:40] and PAH in lubricating oil [ID:41] were deactivated on July 21, 2021. Ever since this caused Warning messages for legacy MDSs containing PAHs with these Application Codes assigned leading to rejections within the supply chain. For some specific instances of PAHs in Lubricants (and as well for other material classifications) this caused Warning messages for legacy MDSs even though these are not application-relevant anymore since the recent change.
In order to avoid these Warnings, both of the Application Codes will be set from deactivated to hidden on August 16, 2021.
For more information about using Application Codes in IMDS and the current overview of Application Codes in Materials please refer to the related FAQ.

Volkswagen will postpone the rejection of material classifications 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2 and 5.4
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
due to internal reasons the previously announced start of rejections of received datasheets with unspecific material-classifications will be postponed. The requirement to only use the more detailed sub-classifications for all materials, according to Norm VW 91101, however still applies. Please use the time to adjust your material data accordingly.
For questions you can contact IMDS@volkswagen.de or your customer contact.

Application Code correction
With the Application Code Change of July 21st, an issue was created that for classification 5.3 you were only able to select Application Codes for tyre use, if the material contained certain PAH substances. We discussed this issue with the Application Code working group of the IMDS Steering Committee. As a result, the Application Code [39] Non-tyre application will be reactivated for PAHs in Classification 5.3.

Volkswagen AG will reject material classifications 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2 and 5.4
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Volkswagen AG will accept VDA classification 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2 and 5.4 only until 1st August 2021. After that date all datasheets containing materials with the mentioned VDA classifications will be rejected. This refers to all material data sheets submitted to a company unit of the Volkswagen AG, no matter if the descripted part is new or a spare part. Excepted from this are materials published by the IMDS Committee under the Company IDs [423], [18986] and [313].
According to VW 91101 the selection of VDA classifications needs to be as detailed as possible. Using the classifications above is therefore not compliant with VW 91101. A full list of all available VDA classifications with explanations can be found in the document „Annex I to the IMDS001 Recommendation“.
Please check early-on if your parts will be affected and initialize an update of your datasheets if necessary.

On 20-Apr-2021 the current IMDS server SSL certificate will be replaced with a new version.
This is a routine change that occurred every second year in the past and will occur yearly in the future, reflecting the industry consensus to raise security by granting shorter lifespans to SSL certificates. If your company does not employ certificate pinning (https://www.digicert.com/dc/blog/certificate-pinning-what-is-certificate-pinning/) in its perimeter security setup, you do not need to do anything as the new certificate will simply work transparently for you, just like the old one. But if your company does employ certificate pinning, you need to validate the new certificate before 20-Apr-2021.
You can download the new certificate here:

Prolongation of IMDS Release 13.0 test period and new go-live date May 19th, 2021
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
we would like to inform you about the IMDS Steering Committee decision to postpone the IMDS Release 13.0 on production from March 10th, 2021 to May 19th, 2021.
The IMDS Release 13.0 schedule has been very tight for all parties involved due to the late finalization of requirements by ECHA, the required time for IMDS-Advanced Interface (IMDS-AI) relevant development and the time needed for necessary adjustments to in-house systems of suppliers and manufacturers.
Therefore, in-house integrators asked for a prolongation of the integration and test period for IMDS Release 13.0. This would lead to a postponement of IMDS Release 13.0.
On the other hand, many companies are waiting for the implementation of SCIP submission functions in IMDS. This has also been addressed and taken into consideration.
However, after balancing all the requirements, the IMDS Steering Committee yesterday decided to prolong the IMDS Release 13.0 test period by about two months. The new go-live date for the IMDS production environment will be 19th May, 2021.
With this Release postponement, the following changes will be delayed:
- Rec019 MDSs deactivation - postponed to 19th May 2021
- Material Classification deactivations - postponed to 19th May 2021
Furthermore, the Metal Wizard function will be shifted to the next Release after IMDS Release 13.0.
