EDS announces more than 10,000 IMDS users
The IT service provider Electronic Data Systems (EDS) www.eds.de continues its success with the international electronic material data system (IMDS) for the automobile industry. Today, the company said that more than 10,000 users have been registered since the start of the system in June 2000.
Additionally, more than 3,500 suppliers are currently working with the system. Via the Internet-based IMDS, automobile manufacturers and suppliers are provided with information about the most supplied automobile parts and their components. EDS developed the system in correspondence with an order from Audi, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and Volvo. Reason for it was the industry's voluntary goal of utilizing 95 per cent of a vehicle's materials in the recycling process by 2015.
